My first introduction to shamanism came in 2001 when I visited a shamanic healer for a soul retrieval. I was curious and wanted to learn more. Shortly after that initial session, the practitioner offered a two-day basic shamanism workshop. I attended and almost immediately felt like I had come home.
The religion of my childhood left me with many questions. In shamanism and its direct connection to divine wisdom and energy, I found answers. Suddenly spiritual concepts and beliefs I had held my whole life but never had words for made sense. Shamanism gave me the language to talk about them, and to communicate with others who felt similarly. New and dear friendships were formed. I found my people. Sitting in circle and connecting from the heart allowed the masks and the ego defenses to begin to fall away. I felt energized and reborn and alive with Spirit.
Learning to communicate with power animals, angels and other compassionate beings to hear their divine guidance and receive their healing supported me in ways that fostered even more growth and healing. I found solace and peace in nature. I started noticing the messages that came through signs and dreams. I tuned in and my intuition developed. Being able to journey and tap into my soul’s wisdom guided me on my spiritual path.
Much healing has come out of attending that first two-day basic shamanism class. It opened up a door for me to learn about shamanism and connect with Spirit.
This work is real, and it matters.
