I sometimes receive inquiries about whether I can talk to the deceased. The answer is yes and no.

For clients who are looking for a connection with departed loved ones, I suggest working with a medium who can communicate with those in spirit form and bring through loving messages of reassurance that their soul lives on even though they are no longer in physical form. A session with a medium can be comforting and help move through the stages of grief. An evidence-based medium will share points of information such as a nickname or a song with special meaning to establish that they are indeed talking to your loved one.

Shamanic sessions are helpful if there is heavy, stuck energy around the loss. These appointments are done for the purpose of energy healing.

After a loved one has died, we may still feel their energy with us. A shamanic session can help sort through any entanglement and release unresolved wounds of the past in order to move forward. When my father died, his soul crossed to the light immediately, but I still felt some of his programming and beliefs lingering in my body for a day or two until I got the clarity that it was time to let go.

If the deceased chooses to stay with you instead of moving into the afterlife, a shamanic healing session can gently help them cross to the light. As long as they stay here in the Middle World, they remain trapped in the pain and suffering of their lifetime. We want something better for them.

Signs that a departed loved one may still be with you include sensing their energetic presence in a manner that weighs on you, such as feeling their pain and unresolved issues. If you frequently dream about them in disturbing ways (versus feeling the love and connection) or if you suddenly manifest their physical aches and illnesses, these are also signs that they may still be with you. Compassionate depossession can help your loved one move to the light. (Compassionate depossession is also helpful if you are holding your loved one here.)

A shamanic healing session can also help bring back any of your missing soul pieces. Sometimes when a close loved one dies, we may have soul loss from the pain. Soul retrieval can restore our innate wisdom and light to help us feel whole again.

I generally wait to work with the grieving until at minimum one or two months after the death of their loved one. Doing a shamanic session too quickly after the loss can circumvent the natural healing process. The client needs time to grieve, integrate and get clarity. Grieving can’t be rushed – it takes as long as it takes.

If you are grieving, please don’t hesitate to reach out for support from a grief counselor, a member of the clergy, a medium, or a shamanic healer. We serve different roles, and each is helpful in different circumstances. May you be held in the light of your highest healing, and may the divine compassionate spirit helpers hold you in the light in the midst of your pain.

This work is real, and it matters.
