Last fall, one of my circles had a reunion at Crow Moon Healing. We had only ever met on Zoom because the class began and ended during the pandemic. It was wonderful to meet each other “in real life” and sit together in sacred space once again. After six months of fairly intimate sharing in talking circles and breakout rooms, we knew each other in a way that translated into a strong connection when we finally met in-person.
There was no detailed agenda for our gathering. The only planning we had done was to ask everyone to bring a gift or talent to share and that we would be doing a ceremony followed by an evening meal.
The contributions were inspiring because they came from the heart. One of the women was a rockhound and brought crystals for each person. Another read a poem she had written and offered a song that had special meaning to her. One of the participants loves to cook, so she provided our evening meal. Another brought chocolate-covered cherries from Door County. One had recently completed a program in sound healing and did a 30-minute sound bath to help us cleanse and prepare for our ceremony.
Gigi Trebatoski Sunshine gifted each of us a piece of sacred art. Gigi, a medium, connects with the spirit of the person she’s painting for and channels the impressions she receives. Some of the artwork were what Gigi calls “heartprints” where she connects with the person’s heart and paints what she sees. These pieces were absolutely stunning, with swirls of color. For the people who received heartprints, the group felt like the painting captured each of their hearts beautifully. No two were the same.
Other of her paintings are called “visionary soul portaits.” In these she connects with the person’s soul and depicts what she notices. For me, she drew a red-headed woman wearing a blue hooded cloak standing along side a body of water. There is an owl perched in an oak tree in the background under a silver moon.
This touched my soul and brought to mind a past life which has surfaced several times over the years. In that lifetime, I lived somewhere in the British Isles and was a healer with the ability to call on the power of the elements. I have a specific memory of standing atop a cliff at nighttime during a raging storm. I was calling on the power of the thunder, lightning, wind and rain and channeling it into a ceremony. This memory is visceral, and I still feel the electrical energy running through my body when I remember this scene.
The portrait that Gigi painted for me was set in the same lifetime and once again evoked this memory. I had never told her of this, so I knew she was channeling inspired by my soul and Spirit.
None of us sat for our paintings – all were made in trance at a distance. We gave permission for her to do so, and she created art.
This work is real, and it matters.
