Over this three-day weekend, individuals, families and communities around the country celebrate their freedom. On a spiritual level, we can honor ourselves today by consciously examining our lives and working with intention to create energetic and spiritual freedom for ourselves.
Join with me in declaring your independence. Fill in the blank for yourself:
I declare my independence from ______________________________.
Be specific. Name it. Words have power. Some examples:
I declare my independence from my judgmental inner critic.
I declare my independence from caring what other people think.
I declare my independence from the pattern of abuse in my marriage.
I declare my independence from my to-do list and my busy schedule.
I declare my independence from overeating.
Energy when joined together gains power. The collective energy of millions of Americans celebrating their independence and freedom today supports us in our intention.
And a ritual to support your Declaration of Independence
This ritual will support you in gaining independence and freedom by placing what you are releasing into the void for transformation. This ritual was taught to me by Betsy Bergstrom, shamanic healer and practitioner of compassionate depossession.
· Be clear about what you’re letting go of.
· Place of representation of what you’re letting go into a box. This representation might be a picture, a memento, a journal entry, or a scrap of paper with a word or phrase written on it.
· Reaffirm your Declaration of Independence as you close up the box.
· Wrap the box in a piece of black fabric so that it’s completely covered. You can use any piece of black fabric, even a towel or a T-shirt.
· Place the box wrapped in black fabric in the back corner of the top shelf in a closet.
· Then forget about it. By wrapping the box in black fabric, you’re joining the power of your intention with the powerful creative force of the void to bring healing and transformation to your life.
· At the point a year or two down the road when you discover the box while cleaning out your closet, pause for a moment. Do you sense any energetic charge around the item in the box? If so, leave it in place. If the energetic charge has been completely drained away, then decommission the box. You can burn, bury or discard the item in the box and/or the box itself, and you can cleanse or wash the black fabric and/or the box for reuse.
On this Independence Day, what do you declare your independence from?
