You may have heard of radical compassion. I’ve also been working on radical acceptance. Both these practices take a lifetime to master, and even then we might not fully get there. As one of my teachers used to say, “That’s why they’re called ‘practices’ – because we need a lot of practice.”
Part of radical acceptance for me is listening to Spirit and allowing the wisdom of the divine to have priority in guiding my life.
One of my first healing intentions on my spiritual path was, “I say yes to Spirit.” I had an “aha” moment recently when I realized that saying yes to Spirit also means saying yes to my soul. Soul is the individual embodiment of the divine, so with my intention of saying yes to Spirit, by extension, I also agree to say yes to my soul. I had never made this connection so clearly before.
Messages from our soul are expansive and uplifting, often carrying the energy of freedom, ease, compassion, joy, and peace. When we receive clear guidance from the divine, we may experience a sense of calm in our body, a natural response to soul-affirming wisdom.
Messages that come from a place other than our soul – perhaps from our conditioned responses, our ego, or our woundedness – have a different vibe. They often feel heavy or constricting, and may be motivated by fear, guilt or shame. If we catch ourself thinking, “Gee, I really SHOULD do this,” it’s likely a message from something other than our soul.
Frankly, it would sometimes be easier to ignore the divine wisdom that comes, becomes it can mean putting our own needs first and disappointing others. At other times, listening to our soul requires us to take a leap of faith and and step out of our comfort zone.
This is a part of the radical acceptance – trusting that our soul and Spirit will guide us with love, compassion, and connection to truth.
If we step into that moment of grace and accept the wisdom being offered, our connection to our soul deepens as we intentionally live a soul-filled life.
This work is real, and it matters.
