Sacred geometry is a term for geometric shapes believed to have mystical properties by the ancient mystics.

A circle is one example of sacred geometry. Because a circle has no beginning and no ending, many spiritual groups and drum circles sit in a circular arrangement to signify their unity and continuity. The simple circular wedding band represents the lasting commitment two individuals share with each other.

Practitioners of earth-based religions such as Wicca and shamanism often conduct ceremonies within the outline of a circle when they desire additional power or spiritual protection.

To cast a basic circle for protection:

Begin by facing east and slowly walk clockwise and outline the shape of your circle on the floor either in your imagination or physically by placing stones or sprinkling cornmeal. Remain within the circle until you’ve completed your ceremony, then at the end walk the circle in reverse and either erase the shape in your imagination or dismantle the circle by taking away the rocks or the cornmeal.

The pyramid is another example of sacred geometry. A pyramid with a square base focuses and directs energy. The ancient Egyptians honored their pharaohs and queens by burying them in pyramids. Some of the rocks and crystals sold at rock shops have been carved into pyramids.

To use a pyramid for protection:

Begin by picturing two square-based pyramids in your mind. Flip one of the pyramids upside down and position the two bases together. This creates a three-dimensional diamond shape called an octahedron. Imagine an octahedron of light around you whenever you need extra protection, healing or focused energy.

I live in a house with a grandmother basswood tree directly off the front porch and an equally large silver maple in the backyard. During severe thunderstorms and high winds, I imagine my house and property with an octahedron of light around it for protection. And because I’m usually in the house at the time, the energy of the octahedron calms me and helps me feel safe in the midst of raging storms.
