When we become aware of an uncomfortable or unhealthy pattern in our life, we can be assured it holds an opportunity for healing. In fact, the more familiar and uncomfortable the situation, the greater the opportunity for healing.

Sourcing from a higher spiritual awareness can help us find our way in these situations. And yet – because of their familiar heavy energy – these are the places we commonly lose our center and become disconnected from our wisdom.

Here is a tool to help us regain the clarity and the higher spiritual perspective we seek:

Bring your awareness to a situation in your life that has familiar, uncomfortable energy about it. Pause for a moment and step out of any usual response patterns such as attacking, avoiding, fleeing, hiding, or freezing.

Get centered, either through meditation, prayer, or walking in nature. Then ask yourself these five questions:

            1) What’s this situation about?
            2) What part did I play in its creation and in allowing it to continue?
            3) What is my lesson to learn in this?
            4) How can I take responsibility for myself and begin to shift or heal?
            5) Can higher wisdom or a spiritual truth provide insight?

Asking these questions from a higher place – above the drama, the fear, the hurt feelings, our habitual response – helps us access spiritual solutions.

Be spacious as you pose the questions and wait in stillness for the answers. Clarity will arrive in its own time. Be gentle and forgiving with yourself until it does.

Also be aware that there are very likely multiple layers of truth to be discovered and multiple lessons to be learned. The first answers that come may be the result of ego and the thinking mind. Are you willing to go deeper? If so, keep asking the same five questions.

As we wait spaciously for the answers, we make our way further into our truth and into a higher spiritual perspective – the source of much clarity and healing.
